The Garden Gate

This is a drawing done by a local artist Jim Knoke's who actually built this garden gate out of iron leading to our front door.
The artist sketches are as beautiful as the gate he built.
I asked him if he could create the Kiwi leaves coming down the gate out of old rusty steel.
He hadn't done this type of project before,
but cherished the challenge.
I sent him pictures of actual Kiwi leaves and he made patterns of them to place on steel.
He made sure the edges of the leaves would be safe
with no cutting edges.
A one of a kind masterpiece of art.
It's a beautiful gate no matter what the season is.

Winter clean up

Starting the pruning process
Cutting to the height
later cutting cross branches, dead branches, opening it up
So the bush will come back
Cut herbs to dry in the pantry
Boots found at the "Bin" in Portland
tools of the trade
Pruners, gloves
In my "New" Old garden bag
That I received at a bag exchange
Clean up one flower bed at a time
rake dead leaves
prune the herbs and bushes
pull up dead plants
With this handy rake

Added soil to some containers that needed refreshing

It's a gorgeous day perfect really
I just wish my allergies weren't so bad.

I needed to come in so I could breath.

It's that time of year again to clean up

Our green house roof was leaking so bad that these trays were overflowing with water, what a mess. The rest of the mess in the green house is beyond description.
This has been a problem the last two years
We've tried patching the roof, and resealing and that didn't work
Last year we put a plastic tarp and it didn't let in the right kind of light and the seedlings didn't do well
This year I ordered the right type of plastic for green houses. We put grommets in with a double layer of plastic for strength, then tied the tarp down. We get super strong winds up here, and lots of rain more so than in town.

I was especially cold this winter as you all know who got the $300 home gas bill.

Now my work is really cut out in getting the green house ready for seeding. It's a good thing I have a month do work on it. Such a mess.....moldy seeds, dead plants well you get the idea.
I have to empty it all out, clean everything and sterilize and put it all back together. I need a month to do this task.
