The Garden Gate

This is a drawing done by a local artist Jim Knoke's who actually built this garden gate out of iron leading to our front door.
The artist sketches are as beautiful as the gate he built.
I asked him if he could create the Kiwi leaves coming down the gate out of old rusty steel.
He hadn't done this type of project before,
but cherished the challenge.
I sent him pictures of actual Kiwi leaves and he made patterns of them to place on steel.
He made sure the edges of the leaves would be safe
with no cutting edges.
A one of a kind masterpiece of art.
It's a beautiful gate no matter what the season is.

Today in the garden

Cabbage and two radishes

It seems I go to the garden when I need to empty my compost bucket.
So since it's sunny and I'm out there anyway, might as well clean up another raised bed.
Two down 9 to go.

Going outside

After peeling 2 gallons of sliced apples for pies next week. I took the peels and cores to the compost pile only to discover wonderful treasures yet in the garden.
There were green bell peppers and yellow peppers.

I'm making vegetable stock today for soup later on.

Then I decided to clean one of the raised beds by pulling up the dead plants from summer and putting them in the compost bin.

Now I can top the bed with compost.

When it's not raining there is lots yet to do in the garden so take advantage and get that vitamin D we all need.

A daily job is sweeping the maple leaves off the hot tub cover, deck, bench and ramp. If I don't it will stain these places from rotting leaves.

Another job is to sweep the sidewalk because the leaves when wet make the surface slippery.
